up and comming blog series (trouble shooting jewelry making issues)

so one of the most frustrating things any designer can go through is working so hard on a piece, going to attach the clasps and your crimp bead cuts your wire, you don't have enough room, or you keep breaking your crimp bead over and over, you just get frustrated so you give up on the piece all disgusted.
well I will be hitting on the topic of choosing the right crimp bead for the job as well as choosing the right clasp for the job, Anything else anyone wants to know let me know along the way so I can give the best info possible.

One of my older pieces of work

This is one of my older pieces of jewelry. This was a lot of fun to make as well as very simple. The focal beads I glues together with a 2 part epoxy then started pairing up some fun beads with some faux pearls and different beads, I basically just had some left over stuff from other pieces and decided well heck what can I do with what I have. This is what I came up with. I think I may make more like this in the near Future!!!!

This is the newest necklace, this is 100 inches of beaded line with two magnetic beads on both sides of the bead string for a closure, loop it and where it how you want its just plain fun.
this is how it looks on someone, my model has a small neck so someone with a larger neck will not get as many wraps to it. 29.50 is the price, keep in mind this is 100 inches (8.5 ft) of beaded fun!!! can't waite to get many more colors.

as summer nears and the weather heats up, we pull out the shorts, capri's and short skirts and of course break out the flip flops. Now its time to pull out the anklets. here is some of them I have out in my line this summer. The theme for this season is flowers. last year was dragon flys and I sold them faster then I could make them lol. These are 10.00 a peice if bought through me and 17.20 if bought off my etsy.com shop. so hurry ladies, paint your toes, and throw on those flip flops and buy some anklets.

Selling your jewelry

One of the things I have learned over the last two years is that, when you first get into the jewelry making buisness you will spend your days making product, I at the time wanted to see my jewelry on people and in galories badly enough I would sell for rock bottom price, I would NEVER pay myself for my time. DON'T make this mistake. Don't under price your jewelry you will burn yourself out within a very short amount of time.
Your Best bet is to make your jewelry and build inventory give yourself a 3 month period where you say to yourself I will design March, April, and May. Then in June I will start advertising and selling at fairs, bazaars and other revanues this will give you time to put together a sales plan and get everything organized as well as help you build inventory. ( some may even need six months to do this)
Make sure you have many revanues of sale I have Etsy, Fairs, selling to Galories, My own website, reps in two states and a third comming next month. (goal is one in each state by december 2012) I even during the christmas and holliday season consign at many shops in differnt citys. I wouldnt recomend this to every person due to the fact that you have to always tack on that 20 to 30% of the sales that the shop owner will want out of you. This makes it harder to sell your jewelry or you have to lower what you want out of your jewelry which in the end you lose money. Just dont try and make it your only revanue.
last you will want a good  system to keep track of  which peice is going where. There is nothing worse then accedently taking a few pieces to fair with you, selling them then getting home and realizing OH CRAP! I had those listed on Etsy and they have been sold, if your lucky you will have all the same materials to throw it together on a moments notice and get it packaged, But honestly That sucks! just make sure you have a good system down for organizing your products and sales.
